Joan Rubió
Joan Rubió comes from a family of traditional winemakers who had their business undercut and effectively destroyed by large cava houses, whose exponential growth created what amounted to a monopoly for grapes grown in the region. Undeterred, Joan took over his family’s vines while working a day for Recaredo, unquestionably the best cava operation going, where he honed his craft and during a 14-year stint there pushed the farming and winemaking to exciting new places. Today he’s back amongst those vines that were once owed by his family making some of Spain’s most startlingly bright, layered wines under his own label.
