Martin ‘Marto’ Wörner is the only very recently established grower whose wildly individualistic wines are helping to establish a new benchmark for Germany’s largest wine region Rheinhessen, the colossal area west of the river Rhein once only really famous as the birthplace of Liebfraumilch. Working a mere 5 hectares of vines once owned by his father, Martin works with the utterly singular focus you’d expect of someone with stints at both Matassa and Gut Oggau on their CV to make wines of forceful personality that have become an instant success since his first vintage in 2017.
