The light-skinned Alpine red variety Mondeuse is an unlikely candidate to make wines that feel this concentrated and dark. Yet in spite of its structure this has more than enough bright acidity and freshness to lend a fine balance.

Jean Yves Péron

Jean Yves Péron is one of those winemakers who has such impeccable training, with the likes of Cornas’ Thierry Allemand and the Alsace’s Gerard Schueller, that he was always destined to make great wines himself. Now installed amongst the soaring Alps at the heard of the Savoie’s Tarentaise Valley, he makes wonderfully enigmatic wines from both the grapes (and other fruit) he sources from around France as well as from the 2ha of old vines he farms himself.
