Moscatel Galego (more familiarly known as Muscat à Petits Grains) is very much at home in the high altitude vineyards owned by winemaker Tiago Sampaio in the Douro Valley. Here it’s given a maceration for four months to leave a dry, fresh wine which glows orange and speaks of richly grape-y, tropical fruit and just a hint of tannin.
Folias de Baco
Tiago Sampaio is the innovative young winemaker behind Folias De Baco, a project he started in 2007 after becoming fascinated following his grandfather through the farms and vineyards as a child. 'UIVO' is written on most of the wines - it translates to 'howl.' Since converting all of his vineyards to organic and biodynamic practices he has seen a substantial return of wildlife. Wolves used to roam his area and he is hoping to help lure them back someday.
