We’d recommend Axel rename this cuvée - which translates as ‘Fear of Red’- ‘La Peur du Sanglier’ after this vintage in which half of this little plot of Chardonnay was eaten by the wild boar which roam in huge numbers across rural France. Axel made up the difference with a little bit of Clairette grown by a friend of his which has lent a little softness to what’s juicy, vin de soif style wine that’s perfect for summertime.

Axel Prüfer

Axel Prüfer’s lightness of touch means that, on tasting, it is almost impossible to believe that  wines of such energy and freshness come from the often drought-afflicted hills of his adopted home in the Languedoc. Axel works primarily with cinsault planted amongst dense forest and over a dazzling array of quartz and granite soils, and his bottles feel like they have years ahead of them.
