The low yielding vines on the Les Varrons plot mean the fruit produced is concentrated and perfumed. It is lent a slatey, energetic quality from the pure limestone soils beneath.
Alain Labet is one of the unsung heroes of Jurassic wine. As one of the area’s first winemakers to concentrate on vinifying wines from individual sites (alongside the likes of Pierre Overnoy) he set a standard that his children Julien, Charline and Romain, who he handed control of the estate to in the early 2000’s have followed and perhaps, even managed to exceed.
