This is an ancient, almost extinct Catalan variety that Joan Franquet of Costador is committed to reviving. The fruit is grown on 80 year-old bush vines before being raised in both oak and, like all of Costador’s wines, and clay amphora to leave a structured, savoury wine that is rich with unmistakably Mediterranean fruit and herbs.
Costador is an estate focussed on pushing Catalan winemaking in to the future whilst absolutely respecting the traditions of the past. From old vineyards in both Conca de Barberà and Priorat they grow some of Catalunya’s oldest varieties, that have been lost elsewhere in the region, often putting those grapes through long macerations in a variety of vessels to produce utterly unique Mediterranean wines.
