This is Chenin Blanc from one of Anjou’s most exciting new producers, Olivier Lejeune. With vines planted in the same black schist soils as the now rightly adored Richard Leroy (whose wines are now near impossible  to find) we find that Olivier’s work, whilst standing completely by itself in terms of depth and finesse, bears some of the same hallmarks. A truly wonderful wine that will continue to age for the next decade.

Clos des Plantes

Olivier Lejeune is a winemaker who travelled the world learning his craft before settling himself at the heart of the Loire Valley’s Anjou. There he was taken under the wing of the legendary Mark Angeli whose guidance was vital in learning the intricacies of Chenin Blanc and whose influence, you feel, will be keenly felt in these wines for years to come. That said, these wines are absolutely representative of Olivier’s fastidiously manual work and some of the most exciting things to emerge from the region in years.
