Hirofumi Shoji spent many years working for one of our favourite producers in Burgundy, Frederic Cossard, before moving to the south of France with his wife Rie a couple of years ago. This is the second wine they have made from what many say is one of the most beautiful vineyards in Europe. High up in the mountains above Collioure, old bush vines of Grenache are planted over rocky soils of granite and schist, producing a wine full of complexity and contradiction. Dark and deep, with a silken texture and real nuance, it wows from the first sip to the last.

Rie et Hirofumi Shoji

It is hard to be believe that Rie and Hirofumi’s first harvest of Pedres Blanques was just a couple of years ago, such is the level of finesse found in the wines and the cult status they have already attained. The two spent years working in Burgundy, Hirofumi with the legendary Frederic Cossard, before finding an incredible vineyard of Grenache planted over schist in the hills above Collioure. Fittingly, their wines display a level of finesse rarely found this far south.
