Anders’ outsider status in the Alsace means he’s free to explore the outermost boundaries of the region’s varieties without hindrance. That’s expressed here with de-stemmed Pinot Noir being macerated in Gewurztraminer juice for just a short time before three years of long, slow raising in the Bannwarth family’s underground cellar. A wine of wild, intense character.

Anders Frederik Steen

Anders Frederik Steen used to be a sommelier in his native Denmark, responsible for writing some of the best wine lists in the world at places like Relae, Manfreds and Noma. A few years ago he began making a handful of one-off wines with legendary nomadic producer Jean-Marc Brignot and the rest as they say, is history. He now lives with his family in the village of Valvignères in the Ardèche, producing highly original wines from some of the region’s most beautiful vineyards.
