An unusually generous harvest in 2018 meant that Benoit was able to make unusually generous quantities of the two Gamay d’Auvergne he produces from his old vine ‘Loup des Vignes’ plot in the volcanic hills of the Auvergne. A warmer vintage produced a wine of pristine, easygoing red-berried fruit that’s just a joy to drink.
Note - Bottle pictured is 75cl, the bottle we are selling is in magnum format
Benoit Rosenberger
Benoit Rosenberger is the latest winemaker from the cultishly adored volcanic region of the Auvergne to make waves in the natural wine world. Despite being born amongst the vines in Sancerre he became a computer programmer and it wasn’t until after a depressing stint at a huge Champagne house left him disillusioned with winemaking that he stumbled upon the likes of Fred Gounan (owner of esteemed Auvergnat estate Domaine de l’Arbre Blanc) that he began again. He now farms a few hectares in the Auvergne’s volcanic hills by hand, utilising herb teas to fight disease and produces some of the region’s most pure, mineral-driven wines.
